Arrest Made in Latest New York City Craigslist M4M Murder

There are new developments in the gruesome case of a gay man found brutally stabbed to death in his Queens apartment and killed by a man he met on the Internet. New York City detectives tracked down 30-year-old Alexys Fermaintt to Massachusetts. Fermaintt, who lives in the Bronx, is now being held without bail and charged with the second-degree murder of Michael Pecora, reports the Daily News.

Fermaintt was arrested at his mother's home in Holyoke, Mass. without incident. Pecora's computer was found in a separate Holyoke apartment that police said appeared to be Fermaintt's primary address, according to a detective. Fermaintt was arraigned Friday in Holyoke as a fugitive of justice and was handed over to NYPD detectives.

The victim's stolen cell phone lead police to the alleged killer. A cab driver reported the phone was given to him by a passenger who couldn't pay his fare. Pecora's sister was calling and sending worried text messages to the cell phone.

Jervis reports: "Several JMG readers have written to mention having seen the victim's regular postings in Craigslist's M4M section." JMG found Fermaintt's MySpace page and his YouTube channel where he posted almost nude NC-17 videos and pics as Rican2Crave.

Maxwell Covers "Billboard"

A handsome and quite fab Maxwell covers the June 27th issue of Billboard as his long-awaited and eagerly-anticipated new CD BLACKsummers'night drops in about two weeks.

AOL Music's hip-hop/R&B PORTAL, The Boombox, is rolling out a track a day, with the entire album (nine tracks) streaming on June 26. The in-store date is July 7. Today the track "Love You" debuts.

100 "Single Ladies" Halt Traffic in London's Piccadilly Circus

Amazon Claims "Glitch" to Blame for De-Ranking LGBT Authors

Over the weekend, "hundreds of gay and lesbian books" written by authors from James Baldwin to E. Lynn Harris "simultaneously lost their sales rankings" as Amazon.com arbitrarily re-classified the titles as "adult". Author Mark R. Probst made the discovery while searching for his gay youth-themed novel The Filly. After contacting Amazon, he received this response:

In consideration of our entire customer base, we exclude “adult” material from appearing in some searches and best seller lists. Since these lists are generated using sales ranks, adult materials must also be excluded from that feature.

Much of the outrage spread across the internets via Twitter and by Sunday "it took just an hour for the hashtag #amazonfail to become the top trending topic on the site", Publishers Weekly reports.

LiveJournal community MetaWriter is tracking de-ranked LGBT titles. Classics such as James Baldwin's Giovanni's Room, Annie Proulx's Brokeback Mountain and E.M. Forster's Maurice were among those losing their sales rankings, as well as numerous contemporary titles by black gay authors such as E. Lynn Harris, Frederick Smith and Nathan James.  "I am incensed, because ALL of my books have lost their Amazon rankings," James tells Rod 2.0. "The Flesh To Flesh anthology has actually been made unavailable.  The page says "we don't know when, or if, this book will be available again."

Flesh to Flesh anthology edited by Lee Hayes, as well as some other titles, are now available.  Contrary to the explanation given to Mark R. Probst, an Amazon spokesperson tells Publishers Weekly  "a glitch had occurred in its sales ranking feature that was in the process of being fixed. The spokesperson added that there was no new adult policy." Glitch or not, making books harder to find on the basis of their content is never a good idea. And at the same time many LGBT titles were randomly de-ranked and re-classified as "adult", Amazon had "vibrators and anal plugs available in their search system with sales ranks attached."

Live Stream: California Supreme Court Hearings on Prop 8

The California Supreme Court is now hearing oral arguments on overturning Proposition 8. The hearing began this hour at 9am local time, noon on the East Coast.

The live telecast is available on the California Channel, but there are warning posted about heavy traffic. Live webstreams are available on CNN and San Francisco's CBS station, among others.

Arguing against the ban will be Shannon Minter, the National Center for Lesbian Rights attorney who successfully argued the gay marriage case before the high court. The NCLR is joined by the American Civil Liberties Union and Lambda Legal, who filed lawsuits challenging the constitutionality of the voter-approved amendment.  The cities of San Francisco and Los Angeles also joined the case and a legal opinion by California Attorney General Jerry Brown.

Pepperdine University Law School Dean Kenneth Starr will argue in defense of Proposition 8 and on behalf of the measure's sponsors. Starr is a former U.S. solicitor general and the former independent counsel who investigated President Bill Clinton.
