WI: GOProud Endorses Tammy Baldwin's Anti-Gay Opponent

The gay conservative political organization GOProud has endorsed anti-gay former Republican governor Tommy Thompson in the Wisconsin Senate race contest against openly lesbian Democratic Rep. Tammy Baldwin, reports The Advocate.

Tommy Thompson is a common-sense conservative who will focus on creating jobs and growing the economy for all Wisconsin,” said GOProud executive director Jimmy LaSalvia in a statement. “Governor Thompson’s experience and leadership uniquely qualify him to serve in the U.S. Senate.”

Thompson, a four-term former governor and Secretary of Health and Human Services under President George W. Bush, won a hotly contested, four-way primary last week. His win marked a break in this year’s trend of tea party upsets over establishment Republican figures, and arguably delivered the toughest general election challenger to Baldwin. ...

The GOProud statement largely focused on economic policy, but it devoted one sentence to “issues of particular importance to gay and lesbian voters in Wisconsin,” saying that Thompson opposes a federal constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage.

During Thompson's short-lived and ill-fated run for the Republican presidential nomination in 2007, he infamously said that it should "acceptable" to discriminate against gays and lesbians in the private sector. Thompson also opposes marriage equality and supports the Defense of Marriage Act.

GOProud really should give it up. They're not even trying to fake it anymore.

VIDEO: Cain Says "Homosexuality is a Sin and a Choice"

Right-wing Tea Party favorite Herman Cain says homosexuality is a "sin" and a "choice."

"I believe homosexuality is a sin because I'm a Bible-believing Christian, I believe it's a sin," the Republican presidential hopeful told CBS News.com. "But I know that some people make that choice. That's their choice."

Cain was asked, "So you believe it's a choice?" 

The response: "I believe it is a choice."

The remarks come two days after the socially conservative, former Godfather's Pizza CEO told Think Progress that he would not have a problem appointing a gay cabinet member—because they're not Muslim and won't "try to put sharia law in our laws."

Cain is opposed to most federal level LGBT action items. Cain opposed repealing "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" and blasted the Obama Administration after its decision to no longer defend recent lawsuits challenging DOMA Section Three. Despite this record—or possibly, because of it—Chris Barron of  the conservative GOProud offered "kudos" to Cain for his "support".

Coulter at Homocon: Marriage "Is Not A Civil Right, You’re Not Black"

Right-wing harpy Ann Coulter headlined Homocon, the gay conservative event hosted Saturday night in New York City by GOProud.

The tax cut obsessed queens weren't expecting this, reports TPM.

"In one of a series of racially insensitive remarks that pervaded her speech, Coulter added, 'Marriage is not a civil right. You're not black.' It was part of a larger argument on which she later elaborated, telling the crowd that the 14th Amendment only applies to African-Americans and that it does not, in fact, apply to women, LGBT people or other minorities. ... 

Thankfully Coulter segued into her signature race-baiting, so the "mostly white" and "predominantly wealthy" gay conservative audience could finally laugh  ...

"Several attendees, who requested anonymity, were also startled by her racially-tinged humor: Coulter's comments about civil rights being "only for the blacks" rubbed many people the wrong way as well, though her joke about oppression and the amount of money in the gay community compared to other minority communities ('Blacks must be looking at the gays saying, 'Why can't we be oppressed like that?'') garnered plenty of laughs from the well-heeled crowd."

Only days before the event, Coulter published a column lionizing Ronald Reagan ... because of his opposition to gay rights.

The event was hosted by Peter Thiel, the billionaire homocon founder of Paypal. Politico's Ben Smith also attended and describes GOProud as "the tea party of the gay rights movement."
