Viva Republica Dominicana! Dominican American track phenom Félix Sánchez has made history after wining his second gold medal in the 400-meter hurdles.
Sánchez posted 47.63s on Monday evening for the Dominican Republic's first medal of the London 2012 Games. This is only the DR's third gold medal in Olympics history. Team USA's Michael Tinsley took silver and Puerto Rico's Javier Culson won the bronze.
Sánchez first won the gold in this event at Athens 2004. This year he made history as the oldest man to ever win the 400m hurdles and with a bittersweet personal story, notes LatinosPost.com.
His grandmother passed away while he was set to participate at the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics. Sanchez contemplated on leaving the Beijing Games but decided to continue. Running through emotions, Sanchez would finish 22nd out of 25. "I ran terribly. I cried the whole day. I was very emotional," said Sanchez. "After that Olympics, I made a promise that I was going to win a medal for her."
