En Vogue and Jody Watley at Chicago Market Days

Over the weekend, tens of thousands flocked to Chicago's Boystown and the 28th Annual Northalsted Market Days street fair. Plenty of food, fun and hotties and a scorching musical line-up that included performances by Chicago's very own Jody Watley, En Vogue, disco divas Linda Clifford and Kathy Sledge, as well as Kristine W. and CeCe Peniston. The Village People (or at least the latest version) also performed.

Jody Watley on "Noah's Arc" and Black Homophobia

Surprised to hear Jody Watley's new cover of "Borderline" on the season premiere of Noah's Arc? In a new interview, the oh-so-fabulous diva says that she was surprised to get the call from Parik-Ian Polk. "I know the show and thought the idea was fantastic. It’s a new exposure for the song. I think it’s awesome."

Jody has a wonderful spin to that regrettable incident at the Chicago radio station where she was prevented from discussing the Gay Games—as Oprah would say, it was a teaching moment. "Perhaps with the next artist who comes to that station, it won’t be such a taboo thing. And with Black people, it’s such a cultural thing, too. There’s a lot of homophobia."

Let's fly from Chicago to NYC and continue the Jody Watley stalkerazzi. In last week's HX, the artist says that Pam Sawyer, who wrote the brilliant “Love Hangover" was floored with her cover on The Makeover. However, Jody adds, "I’m not looking for approval. You just have to put your heart into it."

We're happy that Jody is getting so much heat from her new project. We're even more appreciative that she has always stood by her large gay fanbase—especially the many gay black men, such as yours truly, who grew up listening to her music. Using the Chicago incident as a teaching moment. Fabulous.
