Thessaloniki 2009: WATCH: Kerron Clement Wins 400M Hurdles

Another week, another competition and another gold medal for Kerron Clement. The world 400 meters hurdles champion easily clears the hurdles and picks up another gold medal during Day Two of the IAAF World Athletics Final at Kaftanzoglio Stadium in Thessaloniki, Greece.

Clement's time was 48.11. South Africa's L.J. van Zyl won the silver and Greece's Periklís Iakovákis won the bronze. Clement, the former University of Florida track phenomenon, won two gold medals at the World Athletics in Berlin.

Berlin 2009: Americans Top Gold and Medal Count, Sweep 4x400s

Team USA closes the World Athletic Championships in Berlin at the top of the medal count and a sweep of the men's and women's 4x400 meter relays. LaShawn Merritt (400m) and Kerron Clement (400m hurdles)—both seen above—Allyson Felix and Sanya Richards each won a second gold medal Sunday. Olympic gold medalist Angelo Taylor also won gold.

The United States has 10 gold medals and 22 overall. Jamaica was second with seven gold and 13 overall. Russia also boasts 13 overall.

Team USA's performance at the 4x400 relays was a marked improvement over the incredible disappointments at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, when the two sprint relay teams clumsily dropped the baton. Jeremy Wariner, who won silver in the 400m and seen below passing the baton to Clement: "We expect greatness. That's what we did today. We showed greatness."

Berlin 2009: Kerron Clement is First in 400M Hurdles Qualifiers

An incredible performance for Kerron Clement at the World Athletics Championships in Berlin. The defending world champion, a Trinidad & Tobago-born American athlete, posted the fastest time of any athlete in the men’s 400-meter hurdles on Saturday, winning his heat in 48.39. Clement advances to Sunday’s semifinals of the event.

The former University of Florida track phenomenon clocked 48.39 seconds. Veteran Jamaican Danny McFarlane was second in 48.65. Seventeen-year-old Jehue Gordon was third in 48.66 seconds and becomes Trinidad & Tobago's national record holder in the event. Olympic Dominican Felix Sanchez, whose bulging track singlets have caused quite the sensation in previous years, also advances to the semis at fourth in 48.76.

@KerronClement Tweets: "First round of the hurdles went really well. Won my heat, moving on to the Semi-finals tomorrow. Focus. Just got back to the hotel...finished got a massage (flush). About to hit the shower and back to listening to gospel. God is so good."
