The Los Angeles Lakers have released a video public service announcement that calls for greater "compassion and acceptance." The PSA follows last week's game in which NBA superstar and basketball diva Kobe Bryant was caught on camera calling a referee a "f*cking faggot."
The announcement begins with Bryant: "There are all kinds of different people in the world. That's what makes the world special. So whether someone is different than you."
"In race," forward Lamar Odom says. “Ethnicity," center Pau Gasol says. "Political beliefs," guard Shannon Brown says. "Religion," says forward Ron Artest; "Or sexual orientation, words could be hurtful," Bryant adds.
"Replace them with understand, compassion and acceptance. Let's make this a better world for all of us. "Because we're all in this together," all five players say.
Bryant was fined $100,000 for the outburts. GLAAD and the Lakers have announced they plan to work together to address anti-gay bias in sports.
The video message will be shown "on local LA broadcast and for use inside the stadium," GLAAD tells R20. The PSA has already been shown on KABC-TV. Watch it AFTER THE JUMP ...
