Sen. DeMint: Gays Are "Immoral", Same Sex Marriage "Destructive"

Right-wing South Carolina social conservative Sen. Jim DeMint, described as a "favorite of the grassroots 'tea party' brigade and Fox News", tells Bloomberg News that same-sex marriage is "destructive" to our society and gays are so "immoral" he could never imagine one as president:

"He takes a hard line on social issues, passionately anti- abortion and pro-guns. He has been most outspoken as an opponent of any form of gay marriage. 'Marriage is a religious institution. The federal government has no business redefining what it is,' DeMint says. This is one issue where he doesn’t support states’ rights; state government shouldn’t have the right to permit gay marriage: 'Governments should not be in the business of promoting a behavior that’s proven to be destructive to our society.' He cringes at the notion of a gay or lesbian president: 'It would be bothersome to me just personally because I consider it immoral.'"

Speaking of marriages and morality, DeMint has been virtually silent regarding his state's governor, Mark Sanford, who abandoned his wife and children over Father's Day and flew to Argentina for a jump-off.

In October, the anti-gay conservative slammed the hate crimes bill that just passed Senate and claimed it "undermine[[d] the principles" soldiers are fighting for.

Mark Sanford will be allowed to stay in office. The disgraced South Carolina Republican anti-gay "family values" governor disappeared for almost a week while carrying on an extra-marital affair in Argentina. Legislators say the governor's dereliction of duties and missing in action ... doesn't quite rise to a "high crime".

South Carolina lawmakers on Wednesday quashed a move to oust Gov. Mark Sanford over his summertime tryst and his use of state aircraft, saying his embarrassing conduct was not serious enough to merit impeachment. Lawmakers were still considering whether to recommend an official reprimand. Six of the seven panel members said they believed the events surrounding Sanford's extramarital affair involving an Argentine woman did not rise to a high enough level to warrant his removal from office prior to the end of his second and final term in January 2011. "We can't impeach for hypocrisy. We can't impeach for arrogance. We can't impeach an officeholder for his lack of leadership skills," said Rep. James Harrison, the Columbia Republican who headed the panel.

The serial philandering Sanford is a vocal opponent of same-sex marriage and adoptions by gay couples. 

Sanford's impeachment would have presented the South Carolina Republican Party with a vexing public relations issue. Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer, who called for the resignation of the governor, has been outed as gay.

The South Carolina Lieutenant Governor with a lengthy anti-gay voting record and who has previously denied that he is gay is lying, according to Mike Rogers. The über-blogger and gay political gadfly, whose work outing closeted anti-gay politicians such as Larry Craig is prominently featured in the documentary Outrage, reports that South Carolina Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer is closeted, has hit on several men, and, at least one man reports having sex with him.

The source and two former employees of Bauer served on his staff between 2004 and 2007. They reported to me that on a total of three occasions Bauer spent hours alone with men in hotel rooms. Each of them explained that the visits were with younger men who were not on the staff of the Lt. Governor nor had any official reason to be with him. The two men each confirmed that they had not known each other and each described similar circumstances under which these interactions occurred. One of them confirmed that he was told by the Lt. Governor's visitor he had a sexual encounter with Bauer.

The right wing Christian conservative bachelor has long been the subject of rumors. Openly gay South Carolina state legislator Linda Ketner outed him last May along with Sen. Lindsey Graham.

Bauer's outing leaves the South Carolina Republican Party with a vexing moral imperative. Bauer called for the resignation of the disgraced, anti-gay and serial philandering Gov. Mark Sanford—who flew down to Argentina for a tryst with his girlfriend.

Mike Rogers boasts a 100% track record in outing closeted anti-gay politicians. Rogers outed Sen. Larry Craig almost one year before his well-publicized arrest in the Minneapolis Airport men's room.

FOX "News" Identifies Disgraced GOP Gov. Sanford as "Democrat"

FOX "News" continues to operate in an alternative universe, especially when a Republican falls out of favor. Disgraced South Carolina Republican Gov. Mark Sanford was identified as a "Democrat" at his afternoon press conference. Media Matters reports the right-wing cable news channel "later correctly identified" the governor as a Republican.

Mark Foley and John McCain are among the many other Republican politicians whose party identification was switched on-air.

Anti-Gay South Carolina Republican Governor Admits to Affair

Mark Sanford, the anti-gay South Carolina Republican governor who blasted former President Bill Clinton and demanded his resignation in the Monica Lewinsky affair, becomes the latest "family values" conservative to admit to lying and adultery. Sanford confessed to his own "extramarital affair with someone in Argentina" after mysteriously disappearing for almost a week.

Sanford's aides first claimed they didn’t know where he was and later maintained "he was hiking on the Appalachian Trail but unreachable." The New York Times reports the press conference "began rather oddly", with Sanford "rambling about his love for the Appalachian trail" and pleading "exhaustion."

Sanford is a vocal opponent of same-sex marriage adoptions by gay couples—and adoptions by gay couples—and once claimed he taught his four sons "marriage was something between a man and a woman." Obviously that was before the lesson that it's "okay" to abandon your children over Father's Day weekend for a hookup.
