The Senate Finance Committee approves an $829 billion plan to overhaul health care. Olympia Snowe of Maine was the only Republican to support the bill in an otherwise party-line 14-9 tally.
Majority Leader Harry Reid will now combine this bill with the Senate HELP Committee's more liberal proposal. The final vote could be in about two weeks.
