Thrice-Married Gingrich Criticizes Historic NYS Marriage Equality Law

Anti-gay serial adulterer Newt Gingrich has slammed the new marriage equality law in New York. The thrice-married Republican presidential candidate says "marriage is between a man and a woman" and the new law demonstrates the nation is "drifting toward a terrible muddle," reports Reuters.

[Gingrich] said he thinks the nation should be defending the federal Defense of Marriage Act, which defines marriage as being between a man and a woman.

In February, the Obama administration decided it would no longer defend the 15-year-old law. "I think the president should be, frankly, enforcing that act, and I think we are drifting toward a terrible muddle which I think is going to be very, very difficult and painful to work our way out of," he said.

The former House Speaker is one of the architects of the Defense of Marriage Act, which he pushed through Congress at the same time he was involved in an extra-marital affair with a staffer.

Well, that's one way to bury the news that your senior advisers and top fundraisers resigned en masse.

During the first New Hampshire Republican presidential debate last night on CNN, the candidates were asked if they would try to overturn state laws.

Hermain Cain and Ron Paul said that marriage should be left to the states, while Tim Pawlenty, Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum all called for a federal amendment outlawing same-sex marriages. Michele Bachmann — who recently pressed other states to follow Minnesota’s example and put the question on the ballot — managed to argue that she does support a constitutional amendment but "would not be going into the states to overturn their state law."

Thrice-married serial adulterer Newt Gingrich added: "I was one of the authors of the Defense of Marriage Act. The Obama Administration needs to defend that law, there is no other choice but an amendment."

Of course, Newt. Just like you had "no other choice" but to carry on that affair with an intern at the same time you were "defending marriage". Watch AFTER THE JUMP ...

 

Mass Resignation of Gingrich Campaign's Senior Staff

Newt Gingrich’s presidential campaign "imploded" this afternoon with a mass resignation of his entire staff—campaign manager and a half-dozen senior advisers, report Politico, the New York Times and the Washington Post. 

Among the issues leading to the resignations, according to knowledgeable sources, was the two-week vacation that Gingrich and his wife, Callista, insisted upon taking against the advice of his top political staff. Coming as it did after one of the most disastrous campaign launches in recent memory, it raised questions as to whether Gingrich would be willing to "commit time to the grassroots," said [Rick Tyler, a longtime Gingrich spokesman].

Gingrich had returned earlier this week and visited New Hampshire but remained largely off the campaign trail. 

Carney and Johnson are longtime aides to Texas Gov. Rick Perry who has said in recent days that he is contemplating a run for president himself in 2012. The Carney and Johnson resignations will fuel speculation that Perry is moving toward the race.

The New York Times cites the lack of core "focus", repeated gaffes ... and the "free spending" habits of the "fiscal conservative" former House Speaker.

[Aides]demanded that he spend 90 percent of his time campaigning in three states – Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina – and curtail distractions like screenings of his documentaries. His trip to New Hampshire on Wednesday, for example, was built around promoting a documentary he produced with his wife. Campaign managers were also worried about expenses. In a three-day swing through Iowa last month, Mr. Gingrich spent $40,000 on a chartered Citation 10 jet, the aide said.

Money quote from a key Gingrich strategist who resigned: "The professional team came to the realization that the direction of the campaign they sought and Newt vision for campaign were incompatible."

Newt's "vision for the campaign" was believing he could win the nomination. The staff realized that he could not.

POLL: Herman Cain Leads Gingrich Among Georgia GOP Voters

Black conservative and right-wing Tea Party favorite Herman Cain is preferred by more Georgia Republican voters than any other GOP presidential candidate, according to a new InsiderAdvantage/WSB-TV poll.

Cain holds a substantial lead with 26 percent, double the second place Rep. Michele Bachmann (MN). Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is third with 13 percent, reports WSB.

Following Cain and Bachman in the poll is former Speaker Of the House Newt Gingrich, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney. The poll of 407 people has a margin of error of plus or minus 5 percent. "Newt Gingrich has not had a big presence in Georgia since the 1990s, so it's understandable he's not going to be leading the pack," [Matt Towery, CEO of InsiderAdvantage] said.

It's been a very good week for the anti-gay Black Republican. Cain and Sarah Palin are tied for second place at 15 percent in the new Iowa PPP. Romney is first. 

Cain's off-color jokes about the "Democratic plantation" will probably attract a few more GOP voters. But do you see a Black Republican winning the Georgia primary? Haha.

REPORT: Gingrich to Announce Presidential Bid Next Week?

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is expected to announce his presidential bid next week, reports the Atlanta Journal-Constitution's Jim Galloway.

The former U.S. House speaker [is] passing on the first GOP debate of presidential candidates on [today] in Greenville, S.C., and broadcast on Fox News. Entry requirements required a declaration of candidacy that Gingrich was not prepared to make, [Rick Tyler, spokesman for Newt Gingrich] said. "We decided to stick to our time line."

And what is that time line? Tyler wouldn’t say much, but Gingrich is scheduled to speak to Georgia Republicans at their state meeting on Friday, May 13. "By the time Newt speaks to the Georgia convention, he’ll be a candidate," Tyler said.

The potential Republican presidential field will be become operatic. Trump and Gingrich are two anti-gay serial adulterers—each married three times—opposing marriage equality and running on "family values."

Thrice Married Newt Gingrich: Gay Marriage "Outrageously Wrong"

Serial adulterer and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is "outraged" over the "power" exercised by the Iowa Supreme Court in their landmark decision that struck down the state law limiting marriage to different-sex couples.

The former House speaker—speaking at the University of Georgia's law school on Tuesday—says he was astonished by a recent Iowa Supreme Court ruling legalizing gay marriage in that heartland state.

Gingrich calls the decision "outrageously wrong" and says it demonstrated "judicial arrogance."

Gingrich, who is an entrenched foe of gay rights legislation, would know a thing or two about "family values". Gingrich has been married three times, divorcing one wife when she was recovering from cancer, divorcing another when she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, and, court documents revealed both times he had a much younger mistress. Talk about "outrageously wrong"  ...

Michael Steele Seeking Chair of Republican National Committee

FOX News reports Michael Steele, the black former lieutenant governor of Maryland, has decided to run for the chairmanship of the Republican National Committee "and is in talks with Newt Gingrich to win the former House speaker's endorsement."

Baltimore Sun analysis is spot-on.

"Picking Steele would be an interesting and symbolically potent choice for the GOP. He emerged during the party's convention over the summer as critical of the Republican party's outreach to minorities, noting in nationally televised interviews that there were fewer black delegates to the party's convention than in previous years. Barack Obama's dominance among minorities—not just African-Americans—and young voters has certainly upset a number of people in the party's hierarchy, who conclude that being an all-white party isn't a winning strategy in a country that will be majority-minority in the not too distant future."

Steele consistently opposed gay rights and same sex marriage during his tenure as lieutenant governor. Steele lost his bid for the senate in 2006 and his campaign relentlessly gay-baited and slammed gay marriage as he courted black congregations. Let's hope there is no déjà vu.

Georgia GOP Congressional Candidate Calls Black MSNBC Reporter "Uppity"

Via Think Progress is news of this outrageous throwback to the Jim Crow-era. Speaking on a Macon, Georgia radio morning show, Republican congressional candidate Rick Goddard criticized an MSNBC reporter's heated exchange with former House Speaker Newt Gingrich. Goddard called the black reporter Ron Allen "uppity."

I’ll tell you one thing, I think we’re going to have a very, very strong, capable president in John McCain. Last night, Newt Gingrich disarmed a very uppity newscaster who tried to question him on the capabilities and leadership of Governor Palin. There’s simply no comparison between a governor and a community organizer.

There must have been a local memo. On the same day last week, another prominent Georgia Republican, Rep. Lynn Westmoreland, used the same loaded racist term in reference to Sen. Barack Obama and wife Michelle.

Goddard—a retired United States Air Force general—is correct on one point. There certainly is "no" comparison between a governor and a "community organizer" but Barack Obama is not a "community organizer." Obama is a sitting United States senator and the Democratic Party's presidential nominee. Oh, but what are a few salients facts when you're trying to belittle someone and send a racist dog whistle.

Racism is alive and well. Aided and abetted by the Republican Party.
