Very humbling. The 23rd annual GLAAD Media Awards were announced today and we are nominated in two categories—Outstanding Magazine Article and Outstanding Blog. The article was "Making It Work: Black Same Sex Couples Raising Kids in the South" in the October 2011 EBONY.
The other nominees for Outstanding Magazine Article: "Black & Gay in Corporate America," by Carolyn M. Brown in Black Enterprise; "15th Anniversary of the Passage of the Defense of Marriage Act" by Chris Geidner in MetroWeekly; "The Secret I Don't Want to Keep Anymore" by Janet Mock (as told to Kierna Mayo) in Marie Claire; and ''Transitions,'' by Eliza Gray in The New Republic.
There are 151 nominees in 30+ categories. The ceremonies will be held in New York City on March 24, Los Angeles on April 21 and in San Francisco on June 2. Pariah, Glee, The Oprah Winfrey Show, AC360, The Advocate/OUT are included among the many other nominees. Of special note: TheBody.com editor Kellee Terrell was nominated for Outstanding Digital Journalism for "Black and Transgender: A Double Burden" at The Root.
