VIDEO: Economist Paul Krugman on HuffPost Live w/ Marc Lamont Hill

The nation's economy will grow by only 1.4 percent in 2013 and "unemployment will remain above 7.5 percent through 2014", according to a new report released this week by the Congressional Budget Office.

How to end the recession? Marc Lamont Hill hosted a great Huff Post Live discussion with Paul Krugman, the Nobel Prize-winning progressive economist and New York Times columnist.

"It's the easiest thing [to do] in the world," said Krugman. "We know how to end it. To end this depression we need the federal government to give aid to the state governments. [The states] need to rehire the teachers that they laid off, begin road and infrastructure repair. ... But the political will is not there."

VIDEO: Cleaver Calls Debt Deal a "Sugar Coated Satan Sandwich"

Congressional Black Caucus Chairman Emanuel Cleaver (D-MO) has slammed the debt ceiling deal reached between the White House, House Republicans and Senate Democrats. "This deal is a sugar-coated satan sandwich."

"If you lift the bun, you will not like what you see," the congressman told MSNBC’s Chris Jansing. "What you see is antithetical to everything the great religions of the world teach. Which is take care of the poor, take of the aged."

The New York Times calls the solution a "terrible deal". The $2.5 trillion in spending cuts "will hurt programs for the middle class and poor, and hinder an economic recovery.

Nobel Prize winning progressive economist Paul Krugman adds: The bill "is a disaster, and not just for President Obama and his party. It will damage an already depressed economy."

Nobel Prize Economist Paul Krugman: "Argument Against Public Option is Sheer Nonsense"

Appearing on ABC's This Week, Nobel Prize winning economist and New York Times columnist Paul Krugman slams conservative "Democrats" and the White House for refusing to push a Medicare-like public health insurance option. "They have no intellectual basis to stand on. The argument against the public option is sheer nonsense, we know that, it's nothing except the insurance lobby."

Krugman's comments come the same weekend he penned a devastating column that said President Obama's has repeatedly  "punked" Democrats and "wasted months trying to appease people who can’t be appeased," referring to major White House concessions to Republicans who are unwilling to support any health care plan.
