Ghana: "Survey" claims only 1% of country is gay. R&B legend Lauryn Hill performed for over 40,000 fans at a music festival in Lisbon, Portugal over the weekend. Hill headlined the Festival Dos Oceanos 2010, a free concert to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Portuguese Republic. The concert also featured Rod 2.0 fave Estelle.
Hill's Portuguese appearance comes only days after a July 25th performance in Kigali, Rwanda. That combination, plus the recent leak of new music on the internet, is fueling rumors of a return to the studio. Martin's message comes at the same time British, Portuguese and Latin American tabloids question the Portuguese footballer's surprise baby announcement and ask was the child conceived "naturally" ... or was it a surrogate pregnancy a la' Ricky Martin? Portuguese newspapers now claim the latter ....
Over the weekend, the Daily Mail noted: "Ronaldo's agent confirmed the story, saying: 'Yes, it's true. We make no further comment.' It is not known whether the footballer had a fling with the woman in question or whether she had the child through a 'Ricky Martin'- style arrangement."
The child was born to an American woman who was "paid to be a surrogate mother", now reports the Portuguese media.
"Correio de Manha reported that the 25-year-old Real Madrid winger hired the woman, while Diario de Noticias added that the baby boy was born on June 17 and weighed 9lb 8oz. The report also said that Ronaldo had begun the paperwork to bring the boy from the US to his native Portugal where he will be brought up by th star's mother Delores and sisters Elma and Katia. 'He's very happy, of course. Who isn't happy having children?' sister Katia told Diario de Noticias. 'The baby looks like him, although he's still very small to see what his features will be like.'"
And today the Daily Mail: 'The footballer became a father two days after playing against the Ivory Coast in the World Cup and four days before he helped Portugal beat North Korea 7-0.
He did not reveal the news to his team-mates while in South Africa. ... The newspaper's claim adds weight to the theory that Ronaldo had the child through a 'Ricky Martin'- style arrangement."

Portugal and Real Madrid's football and fashion phenom Cristiano Ronaldo has become a father, according to announcements made on his Twitter and Facebook accounts, as well as reports in Portuguese media.
The simple and somewhat mysterious Twitter message:
It is with great joy and emotion that I inform I have recently become father to a baby boy. As agreed with the baby's mother, who prefers to have her identity kept confidential, my son will be under my exclusive guardianship. No further information will be provided on this subject and I request everyone to fully respect my right to privacy (and that of the child) at least on issues as personal as these are.
Ronaldo has declined to identify the mother. The Portuguese newspaper Correio da Manhã
reported that she "is from North America and had her child in early
June", according to Agence France-Presse.
Ronaldo joined Madrid from Manchester United last summer in an £80m deal ($121m) and became the world's most expensive player. The now-iconic footballer recently returned home from World Cup 2010 in South Africa, where Portugal were eliminated at the last-16 stage by Spain. Ronaldo recently announced his support for marriage equality, which is now the law in Portugal.

Portuguese football and fashion phenom Cristiano Ronaldo support's the nation's new marriage equality law.
In an interview with Público and translation provided by Blabbeando's Andrés Duque, the footballer says: "The Portuguese man that I am, I try to keep informed about what is happening in my country. I know the law was passed and the comment it deserves is that we must respect the choices made by anyone, because, after all, all citizens should have the exact same rights and responsibilities."
That's excellent news from one of the world's top footballers. The sport has had its share of recent headlines from homophobic attitudes by fans and players alike.
Excellent news on Portugal's marriage equality bill that passed in January. President Anibal Cavaco Silva says he will sign the same-sex marriage bill, reports the Associated Press.
"President Anibal Cavaco Silva said in a nationally televised address...vetoing
the bill would only send it back to Parliament where lawmakers would
overturn his decision, he said, adding that the country needed to focus
on overcoming an economic crisis that has increased unemployment and
deepened poverty. The Socialist government's bill was backed by
all of Portugal's left-of-center parties, who together have a majority
in Parliament. Right-of-center parties opposed the measure and demanded a
national referendum. 'Given that fact, I feel I should not
contribute to a pointless extension of this debate, which would only
serve to deepen the divisions between the Portuguese and divert the
attention of politicians away from the grave problems affecting us,'
Cavaco Silva said. He said that, in ratifying the law, he was
setting aside 'personal convictions.'"
Portugal's Constitutional Court overwhelmingly approved the marriage bill in April.
The conservative and overwhelmingly Catholic nation becomes the sixth European country allowing same-sex couples to wed. Belgium, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden and Norway also allow marriage equality. Five U.S. states and the District of Columbia have legalized same-sex marriage, as have Canada, South Africa and Mexico City.
Cavaco Silva's announcement comes on the International Day Against Homophobia. Bravo and congratulations Portugal.
On Thursday, Portugal's Constitutional Court approved the same-sex marriage bill that was passed in January. The only thing needed to make Portugal become Europe's sixth country to legalize same-sex marriage? The signature of conservative President Anibal Cavaco Silva.
"[Silva] sent it to the country’s top court last month, after expressing doubts over whether it was constitutional. But the tribunal’s president Rui Moura Ramos explained why no problems were found with the proposal. While it does not fit the traditional concept of marriage, as outlined in the constitution, he said this concept is open and can evolve. Portuguese President Anibal Cavaco Silva has 20 days to either veto the legislation or sign it into law. If it is ratified, it would come into effect just ahead of a visit to the staunchly Roman Catholic country by Pope Benedict XVI."
Only two of the 13 justices on the Constitutional Court dissented.
Even if Silva vetoes the law pushed by Socialist Prime Minister Jose Socrates, there are more than enough votes in parliament to override his opposition, reports IOL Diario.
