In today's g-fab news: Ray says he is not "Gay J".
The singer and star of VH1's For the Love of Ray J responds to somewhat persistent gay rumors, the most recent being hurled by a former contestant on his show, Monica "Danger" Leon. Over the weekend, she appeared on Los Angeles radio and claimed Ray J has been "smashing" rapper Young Buck for "years"
This morning, Ray J appeared on TT Torrez' popular radio show on Richmond's 92.1 FM and responded to Leon. Ray J's statement is one of the better responses to gay-baiting that we've seen in hip-hop. Rough transcript:
"I'm not gay but at the same time I have love for gay people, girls and dudes. I have friends who are gay, female and male. I'm not trippin' and I'm secure in my sexuality. I don't want people to think I like dudes, because I don't, but at the same time I work in Hollywood and [there] are many gays who work here. I'm not going to bash the gay community ... they are some really good people."
Ray J adds that Danger was upset he "hadn't returned her calls" and was "going through some drama", apparently referring to her recent psychiatric hospitalization and the court-ordered removal of her children.
Ray J, whose real name is William Raymond Norwood, Jr, is the younger brother of singer/actress Brandy. He's previously appeared at black gay pride events and it sounds like he's been getting some good advice. Listen to his radio interview with TT Torrez here.
