PHOTO: Satellite Photos Show Hurricane Sandy's Colossal Size

A view of the frightening size of Hurricane Sandy as it appeared on the entire disk of Earth. The image was captured by NOAA and NASA's GOES-13 satellite Sunday morning at 0902 ET.

Another image shows the monstrous Hurricane captured from the International Space Station. Hurricane Sandy was positioned off the North Carolina coast and continues on a northwest track as of Monday 0900 ET. The storm is expected to bring a "life-threatening storm surge, coastal hurricane winds and heavy Appalachian snows."

PHOTOS: Moon, Clouds, Lunar Halo

In today's space porn: A few images of the moon and clouds, which at night appears as black smoke. These are from Sunday when the moon was still in its waxing gibbous phase.

The images are handheld—no tripod this time—Canon SX30 in AUTO exposure and NIGHT/MOON settings. The focal length is 637mm to approx 3000mm. There is no cropping or editing.

There has been a full moon for two evenings but there's been a heavy night cloud cover in this area. Above is the visual from the ground taken last night. You can see the clouds and the halo.

The images are AUTO exposure and SPORTS setting. Here is the moon, a wisp of clouds and the lunar halo, a thin ring of millions of tiny ice crystals in cirrus clouds.

The focal length is approx 750mm to 2400mm. The farther you extend the telephoto lens, you lose the clouds and the halo.

There was a gorgeous half moon last night and took some images. Unlike earlier this week, used a tripod this time for better composition. The images are lensed in HD with a longer zoom and laser focus.

All the images are AUTO focused on Canon SX30. The focal length is 1872mm to 2370mm. Totally loving the crater detail, brown color and dawn line.

Took a few photos during last night's partial eclipse. 

Most of the images are manual exposure at 878mm. Love the crater detail above and in the last image.

Unfortunately there was no full moon because the photos would have been stunning.

Couldn't take many because the moon was so low on the horizon—that's the treeline you see on the lower images—and there was so much noise and fireworks.
