PHOTO: Twitpic of Male Couple Causes Homophobic Backlash

A seemingly innocent photo of one young man holding his sleeping friend has caused a homophobic backlash across the internets ...

The image was snapped of two young men apparently on Atlanta's MARTA and the Twitpic is entitled "No Excuse: I Don't Give a F-ck How Sleepy You Are." So far, the image has 12,400+ views and has produced  three pages of mostly cruel, homophobic and hateful comments. There are dozens more comments across Twitter and the Twitpic has migrated to gay-baiting black gossip blogs. One perennial gay-baiting blogger has slammed the two young men as "homo-thugs", ranted about HIV/AIDS and complained that "it's become nearly impossible to distinguish heterosexual men from down low thugs." Are "down-low" thugs hugged up on public transit? Probably not ...

It's a very sweet and innocent photo. According to the comments, it seems the young men's primary offense, in addition to seemingly being gay, is that they are "normal looking" and apparently in love. More power to them. It's too bad more people don't have the courage to be themselves.

Oh and fwiw: WatchJ's Twitpic stream is a trifling hot ghetto mess with several "No Homo" photos. Ask him where did a straight guy find the photo of the two gay porn stars. Surely they weren't on MARTA, hon.

Tyler Perry Finally Speaks on "The Boondocks" and Lawsuit Rumors

Tyler Perry has finally spoken publicly on the recent episode of The Boondocks that skewered the director. Trade publications recently quoted insiders at Turner Broadcasting—which airs two of Perry's shows on TBS—whom said the director was "furious" and reportedly "threatened" to sever his relationship with Turner.

Perry did not comment on that but did speak on other rumors at the Essence Music Festival, reports YBF.

"Just like the Spike Lee situation, I feel that 'no response' is the best response. I'm just gonna leave it at that... But I will tell you this ... there is absolutely no truth to the rumor that I'm suing The Boondocks. Those are all lies. I'm not suing anybody over that. And I haven't fired anyone because of that show, either. I don't know where all that came from."

Of course litigation is out of the question. A lawsuit means Tyler Perry would have to sign an affidavit or give a deposition stating he was not gay. Right?

REPORT: Tyler Perry "Furious" with "Boondocks" and "Threatened" TBS

Tyler Perry is reportedly "furious" after the recent episode of The Boondocks that skewered the director.

Perry, who has two shows on Turner Broadcasting's TBS, reportedly "threatened" to sever his relationship with Turner after the now-infamous June 20 episode of The Boondocks that ran on Turner's Cartoon Network, reports The Los Angeles Times.

Soon after the episode aired, Perry got in touch with executives at Turner including entertainment chief Steve Koonin and Phil Kent, the chief executive of Turner Broadcasting. Perry complained loudly about the episode and even threatened to rethink his relationship with the company, people familiar with the situation said. A spokesman for Perry declined to comment. Kent, who is a low-key executive but also a former talent agent, put his skills to work and acknowledged to Perry that the actor-producer should have been given a warning about the episode. The show, which has aired twice, is not scheduled to air again on Cartoon Network, although the company would not say if it has been banned from the channel.

Senior executives at Turner knew the episode had the potential to cause headaches when the script for it first came in more than a year ago, people close to the show said. McGruder had wanted the show to be the season premiere, but instead "Pause" was moved (some say buried) further into the season. In the original script, McGruder did not make much of an effort to alter the identity of the subject of his scorn; he had to be told to change the name of the character so it wouldn't so closely resemble Perry's. He came back with a name that was a play on Perry's legal name, but that didn't fly either. And, hence, Winston Jerome was born.

It's testimony to Tyler Perry's power that Turner Broadcasting is now trying to accommodate the director's "hurt" feelings. Perry's reaction to a parody on an animated series seems a bit much, but at the very minimum Turner should have given Perry a heads up before the broadcast.

Last night's episode of The Boondocks eviscerated Tyler Perry's legacy as the "king" of Black Hollywood.  "Pause" centers around Robert Freeman's audition for the Tyler Perry stand-in "Winston Jerome", who has built a stage, television and film empire around the gun-toting, ghetto-fabulous and lewd character "Ma Dukes". The gospel stage play is called "Ma Dukes Gets a Man" and the episode deliciously skewers Perry, the black church and the "religious" message behind the Madea franchise.

Said the "Winston Jerome" character. "I told Jesus I want to write plays for women. And I asked Jesus what do women want to see. And Jesus said, 'Sexy shirtless men!' So I searched the world for the most sexy, shirtless black men. And Jesus was pleased. And I asked Jesus how can I further spread his message? And he said, 'Put on a dress and a wig!' And Jesus was pleased!"

The episode also discusses homophobia and "no homo" , and sums up "Winston Jerome's" plots in 15 seconds (see Part One 2:57). The episode is NONE too subtle in referencing the gay subtext in the plays and movies, speculates on the "casting" process for black male actors hoping to work for "Winston Jerome" and the cult-like atmosphere that surrounds him. Oh and ten points for the fabulous wraparound sweater on the crucifix because Jesus "looks cold up there."
