Carla

I think I picked it up during the Breakin'-Beat Street-Krush Groove era.

My first contact with the Rap/Hip-Hop genre was when I came across Snoop Dogg's "Doggystyle" cd. It was in a Pawn Shop back in '95 or '96. Then I found LL Cool J's "14 Shots to the Dome", which really got me started. I started watching music videos on MTV and the rest is history.

...when i heard "rapper's delight" for the first time at my cousin's friend's birthday party in queens in 1979?

...when this kid john who used to sit behind me in gym line formation peeped me to this group called Run-D.M.C. in 82/83?

...when i saw Run & D.M.C. at the sunrise movie theater in valley stream, chilling like regular peeps?

...when I realized that the 98 posse that rode around Long island when i was a kid actually had something to do wit the public enemy that i loved as an adult?

...when i finally got my hands on the very first issue of vibe with treach on the cover, and crying a few tears in my office cause i realized that we had produced something really, really hot?

I fell in love with hiphop over and over and over again thru the years. been heartbroken by it and fell OUT of love with it many times, too...but some of the best lovers treat you any kinda way if you let them, now don't they?

i remember dorothy low from my early days covering hiphop for the village voice and spin magazine. If I remember correctly she shot the story i wrote about voguing for the village voice back in the late 80s, one of the first substantial pieces about voguing (pre-Madonna)...dorothy was real cool...

When did I first fall in love with hip-hop?

The year of Rapper's Delight. That sound was played throughout the projects that entire summer. I couldn't be anymore than 6 or 7 years old. It was the first song whose lyrics I learned by heart outside of the Jackson Five.

boogie tonight

when did i first fall in love with HIP HOP?

Rappers Delight when me and myself would recite the song word per word.
