Actor Taye Diggs is interviewed in the current Genre as their monthly STR8DUDE. The column is a must-read; the q&a is often gayer than some of the magazine's regular ... err, gay ... features. Jessica Palmer's interview presents a very gay-friendly Taye:
First encounter with the gays: "I was with a friend and these two dudes were in front of us. And one dude grabbed the other dude's ass, and it was the first time I had seen anything like that. I remember just looking and shrugging. From that point on, I knew that some dudes liked other dudes and that it was cool."
Homophobia in Hollywood and the reluctance of some actors to play gay. " It has a lot to do with how you start and how you are perceived. I feel if I were to play a gay character now, I wouldn't run that risk of being stereotyped."
On being a tease—as if we didn't know: Sometimes Taye orders Chinese food and surprises delivery guys "with no pants on. Sure! I have definitely been known to do such things!" And the address again would be ... ?
Taye Diggs co-stars in the soon-to-be-released Rent.

While I was thoroughly under-impressed by his work in the Off Broadway "A Soldier's Play", his nude scene with Omar Epps and Richard T. Jones in "The Wood" remains quite memorable.

If How Stella Got Her Groove Back is indeed based on Terry McMillian's life, one could argue that Taye has already played gay.

Now that's kinda kinda actor. He's not one who has too many hang ups in acting and conversing.

I love Taye as an actor, it could help him in the long run. He played the young love to an older woman. He played a role as a guy was uncertain about career and love to a close friend. he should explore that avenue. (ws) Wesley Snipes has played a gay role and his acting career is still in tack.
