boogie tonight

the first 4 songs off the chameoleon labelle cd are my fav labelle songs

IDiop

Agreed. Love LaBelle (Patti, Sarah, and Noah) 2 death. There will never been another black rock/soul group that is harmonically dynamic with killer over-the-the-top fashion sense and pure theatrical entertainment value as LaBelle was. @ Boogie Tonight: the entire Chameleon CD was sweet: check out Chameleon/Gypsy Moths, and Going Down Makes Me Shiver. And if you get you hands on a copy of LaBelle's recording of Miss Otis Regrets (c. 1978), you'll hear just how heavenly these Nighbird divas were in their prime. Can't wait to hear the new material! -Peace, IDiop

They were incredible, so thanks for mentioning this new joint. I also love the photo, Rod. Look at Nona's and Patti's fierceness--whew!

boogie tonight

actually they had a newer song in 95 on the To Wong Fu, Thanks For Everything Julie Newmar called Turn It Out

CHARLES

Thank you for a goose bump moment. Anyone of your readers that's of a certain age and fortunate enough to have partied at the Paradise Garage knows the power of a Labelle song. Messin With My Mind, Spirit's In It, What Can I Do For You, the list goes on. There was a rumor about a reunion tour. Does anyone have any info on that?

its about time for some grown folks music. this white radio announcer once called labelle a one hit wonder, but that because he doesnt know that tons of r&b artist have huge careers and never make the pop chart number 1 spot.

i just hope that the producers dont try to make them sound like destiny's child.

carl

Whew! ... Messin with my mind! Love that song ... and I also remember kicking up my heels at the wonderful Garage in its last years (86-87) ... making me feel old but glad I'm hear to tell it ... Damn that Lady Marmalade remake ... just horrible

derrick

What can I do for you/ Its just an all girl band

"People want truth....or nothing at all. People want sincerity and nothing false....." from "What Can I Do For You". Words stil relevant today from 30 years ago. LaBelle was definitely ahead of their time. Patti's voice, Nona's lyrics and Sarah's sass was an unbeatable combination. What about "Get You Somebody New" and "Slow Burn". Sistahs was sangin' Nobody has done it like that before or since. For those that don't know, get educated about LaBelle.

NONA!

SARAH!

PATTI!

Need anyone say more!

GOING DOWN TO YOUR RIVER MAKES ME SHIVER AND THE CHILL OF THE WATER MAKES ME FEEL SO GOOD!

I COME LIKE THE POURING RAIN EACH TIME YOU CALL MY NAME. ITS GOOD WHAT YOU'RE DOING, WHAT YOU'RE DOING!

IF YOU WANT SOMEBODY TO BE YOUR SLAVE, GET YOU SOMEBODY NEW!

IF YOU KEEP IT UP, I'M GONNA GIVE YOU UP...YOU'RE MESSIN' WITH MY MIND!

HOW IS IT THAT TWO PEOPLE, WHO CLING TOGETHER, WANNA DREAM THEIR LITTLE DREAMS TOGETHER...SOMETIMES END UP ALL ALONE!

MY GOD, I AM HIGH FROM THE HISTORY OF LABELLE!

THE BEST FEMALE GROUP EVER TO BLOW!

I SAID IT!

I MEAN IT!

P.S. "BURNIN' UP" WAS ON THE SOUNDTRACK TO "TO WONG FOO..." GOOD CATCH...BUT THIS ONE SHOULD BE RAW AND TRUE TO THEM AND NOT JUST A "LADY MARMALADE" REHASH. IT'S ON!

NEXT DUTY: TO GET THEM ON THE ROAD AGAIN!

MDeVone

Agree with you all. One of my favorite was "Isn't It a Shame".

Just the mere thought of Labelle and "Messin with my mind" conjours up memories of Better days, The Nickle bar, Paradise Garage,Sweats, Catacone's/ Allegro's (Philly) The clubhouse (DC)..Oops I just dated myself. Go ahead Labelle and don't forget the club mix.

Going On a Holiday! Getting Out of hea!!Going Going Going!!
Is it a shame that this all girl band hasn't come into my life by a Moonshadow.

well it's about time for these renouned diva's to reunite that just blows this ole boi's pant leg up. man when i think about my first encounter of labelle i think i might have been about sixteen or seventeen and they were on the mike douglas show, well needless to say i bacame a fan for life patti had just had zory and mike asked her if she would mind singing after thier brief introduction and she handed zory to mike and baby the heat was on. them thangs started singing hey sista go sista soul sita and baby lady marmalade was born and my next encounter with the girls was on don kirshners rock concert a show that came on every saturday night showcasing rock talent well the stage was dimmly lit and nona was already on stage dressed in a tight form fitting white body suit of leather with the most beautiful head gear of cock-a -too feathers and glimmering rhindstones underneath one eye and sitting in a bird ring stand and sara was wearing her silver cups on her breast and mid section bare with feathers of many colors protruding from behind and the stage floor was covered with white smoke and all of a sudden you hear night birds fly by the light of the moon but there's no patti when out of no where patti desends from above the stage adorned like nobodies buissiness like a majestic queen bird come down to earth, my god if i could relive that again needless to say i'm hooked for life i'm now 49 years old and i still am a labelle fan, songs like it's just an all girl band ,what can i do for you ,space children, messin with my mind, the amazing flight of a lone star, you turn me on ,get you some body new,oh i could go on and on i loved them all it would do this ole boi's heart good to see them get back together for one last reunion

Pattis response to a reunion

There has been talk of a Labelle reunion. Any idea where or when? And would it include Cindy Birdsong? Would you do a live CD and DVD with Labelle?

PL: As a matter of fact, there will be a reunion very soon and I’m planning to record a new CD by the end of this year, if things go as planned. It will feature Sara and Nona. I also plan on doing a DVD.

I was at their farewill perfomance in Philly, and I can say I have never seen a greater perfomance that the concert. My favorite songs are Moon Shadow and Can I Speak To You Before You Go to Hollywood. Wish the would tour again.

We MUST persuade Vicki Wickham (Labelle's manager) to try to get Labelle's final unreleased album finally released. It was to be titled "Shaman" and has been on the shelf all these years. Can you imagine how incredible it must be, if it's anything like Chameleon? They should have won Grammys for Nightbirds and Chameleon, but for the narrow-minded music industry. And YES, Miss Otis Regrets is one of their best recordings ever. Very theatrical, very Labelle. There will NEVER be another group of women like them. Each a solid solo performer in their own right. And I get tired of reading these articles that Sarah never did anything with her career. She had several great dance records; starred (acted) and wrote and sang the theme song for PBS's "Watch Your Mouth" (if only they would release that on DVD; and she was a major force with Keith Richards' band in the 90s. Keith said that Sarah's version of "Time Is On My Side" is the best ever; four albums with beautiful vocals; and a rap classic with High Fidelity Three (Satisfaction). Also, her she carried the melody often in a lot of those Labelle songs with her strong voice. Just listen - her voice stands out strong. Sarah deserves more credit.

Patti LaBelle and the Blue Belles mad a Christmas album before they became th group LaBelle. I heard the album but i have never been able to locate a copy. Has anyone heard it or seen it??? or did I just imagine it. I've loved the girls from the time I heard " Can I speak to you before you go to Hollywood". I look forward to hearing the together again.

Don't miss the episode of Patti's show on TV One where they show the girls recording together. As Patti says, "We still sound like Labelle!" It's true. Labelle rock!!!!!

Can ANYONE at all tell me the lyrics to "What Can I Do For You"? That is one of my all-time funky favorites from these divas, but I'm still trying to figure out what they are singing after they sing, "Let's stop fighting...Let's stop fighting...". It's sounds like they are singing "sex and drugs" or something of the sort-lol-so I'm very curious. If anyone can provide their help, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!!!
