You may have noticed that over the last week or so, this weblog has published later than usual. In addition, the site was dark on Tuesday and Wednesday. That's because a family situation has required much of my immediate attention.
On Monday, after a long struggle with leukemia, my Uncle Robert collapsed and slipped into a coma. He passed on Thursday. Of my mother's 12 brothers and sisters, he was the youngest next to her and easily my favorite. Growing up without a father, Uncle Bobby taught me the values of hard work, self-reliance, and, most importantly during my teen years, how to shave without creating razor bumps. Uncle Bobby's barbecue was legendary nad his summer cook-outs were events.
It's helped to work and stay busy, which is why nothing has been publicly said until now. But my main concern is being of assistance to my family and mainly my mother, who is doing the best she can. Unfortunately, last year she also lost a brother, and, a sister-in-law, my aunt Diane, who was actually Uncle Bobby's first wife. Originally, there were 13 siblings in her family. Now there are only five.
Throughout the week, we'll be posting regularly. However, because of the time difference, expect posts to begin after 9 or 10 CST. Also, services are Thursday, probably won't be posting that day.
Thanks for reading and allowing me to share.
Rod
Please know that you and your family are in my prayers.

Rod- I hope your Uncle Bobby gave you the things you have given to your readers- information, laughs, a passion for life, and the warmth of belonging. Count your memories as blessings and take comfort in the lessons he taught you.

My heart goes out to you now, and to your family. This blog is unimportant compared to all the emotions you and your family are feeling at the moment. You take care and come back to blogging when "you" are ready and for no other reason.
God and His Son Jesus bless you and all your family right now.

Though technology allows us to extend our concept of "family," nothing can take the place of blood. You know you speak to--and touch--many with this blog, and we all appreciate you, Rod. In this difficult time, be good to yourself and heal, and know that all those you have touched want your heart to heal.

You and I spoke over the weekend and I had no idea of what you were going through. Wish I had known then. Look take care of yourself and take care of your mother. My father is the only one left of 12. I can only imagine what she is going through, but you have what it takes to see her, and yourself, through, memories and love. Take care.

Rod, you are truly a great soul. I'm sure your uncle recognized that. Do what you have to do, take care of things, the blog will be there waiting and we, your fellow bloggers and readers will be waiting as well.
Peace my friend.
