this is disgusting on so many levels. my best wishes to the family

My prayers and thoughts are with the family. These cowards who are so insecure in their own manhood need to be bought to justice.

Homophobia strikes again. New York City has an openly gay city council speaker, openly gay legislators ... but some of us want to revert to the dark ages.

What is this world coming to? What the hell is wrong with people? This gruesome attack because some ignorant individuals couldn't see pass their stupidity and attacked a man because they "thought" he was gay. And if he was gay or not, what difference does it make? Not a damn. Sorry for the potty mouth, but I'm furious. Sick and tired of being sick and tired. And people have the audacity to exhort this "Oh gays causing the world to go to hell in a handbaskey." Oh no it's not that. The cause is all this hatred, this ignorance, this selfishness, this oppression, this greed, this allowing of the devil to get all up in your spirit and cause you to act a fool and steal what God meant for everyone-that being love, support, affection, unity. It's definitely time to spread love, claim love, be love, be smart, be wise, be selfless, be bold, and be audacious.

Tamara

My prayers with all families and all parties involved. Homophobia is deadly. It's like you die a little slow internal death when you hear about stuff like this. This is beyond an outrage.

Rod thanks so much for pointing this out. More and more of us need to hear about these stories, and maybe it will help end this crazy violence. And thanks Tamara for your comments I just discovered your blog through Rod, I love it.

Most white people would never commit this kind of cowardly brutality. Most black people would never commit this kind of cowardly brutality. Most Latino people would never commit this kind of cowardly brutality.
Only a few in every nationality/race/ethnic group are this sub-human. We've got to remember that as we grieve over the execution of this innocent man just because some savage beasts thought he was gay.

Freaking tragic! Caused a knot in my stomach. Similiar happened to a gay female friend and her straight sister; dancing together at a bar celebrating birthday; only they survived. Hope the culprits get the max penalty, once caught.

New York City Council Speaker Christine C. Quinn should keep her dyke mouth closed.

She is anti-black.

This chick didn't want residents in the mostly black Bed-Stuy neighborhood in Brooklyn to name a street after a local black hero.

This chick voted for a Mayor who has run a racist police department to run for a 3rd term (NYC Mayors only serve 2 terms).

Christine should go somewhere and sit down.

Clinging to life?

Has this hermano actually died? The WINS 1010 story (dated 8:07 ET) you link to says the parents will make a decision Thursday on whether to disconnect him from life support. I guess that means he's effectively passed. Echoes of Michael Sandy...

My story was written this morning, and the linked 101O WINS story said he died. The AP, the New York Times, the Daily News and Ch 4, among others, say he has died. BTW, you might want to look at my background, I produced local and network news for many years and that's why I wrote 'reportedly.' RM

The attackers were black? See, I don't want anyone else telling me that black people can't hate. By the way, I think those men might deserve the death penalty for what they did.

VC

It's not uncommon to have conflicting news about conditions of victims. Most of the outlets say he is dead, some say clinging to life. Rod is usually very good about things like that.

Per an AP update as of 9 PM tonight, Jose Suchuzanay has been declared brain dead, and a death certificate has been issued by the city. It is a tragic, horrible end to one of the worst acts of insensate violence and blind homophobia I have seen in a long time.

I am working with local LGBT advocacy groups to try and organize a vigil in response to this atrocity. I will keep one and all updated on any progress we make. Finally, thank you, Rod for acknowledging my small role in bringing news of this outrage to your readers.

Fred

I am so heartbroken over this tragedy. Beating two men senseless because they appeared to be gay? Good lord, two BLOOD brothers can't hug each other in public for fear they will be killed in the streets? In New York City? The devil is liar........
No wonder black men are so damn afraid to show any emotion towards their brothers, fathers, sons, nephews for fear it would make them weak. I am sickened by this story. Last week Rod gave us the news about Haiti celebrating their first gay pride march and felt a pride for my ancestry. Now my hometown of Brooklyn is going backwards instead of forward.....

This is incredible ! ... Two Latinos have been brutally killed in New York City in less than a month :

Jose Sucuzhanay and Marcelo Lucero in Long Island, New York City.

Add these to the brutal beating and kicking that took the life of Luis Ramirez in Shenandoah Pennsylvania last July.

These Brutal Murders are repugnant. The special Cruelty, Sadism and Inhumanity. The victims were all hard working, peaceful, honest and nice people.

I would consider all these attackers as perfect Terrorists and Cowards.

I have a blog to denounce Racial Murders and Racial Hatred. And to profile the good things of the Victims and their Poor families :
