Here's a follow-up to yesterday's post on Constance McMillen's weekend appearance on "The Wanda Sykes Show". Sykes was so moved by the story of the Mississippi lesbian high school student that she invited her to the GLAAD Media Awards on April 17th in Los Angeles. Sykes will receive the Stephen F. Kolzak Award, an honor presented to an openly LGBT media professional. Sykes asked McMillen to present her award, which was pretty cool.
Now there's video of the segment. Watch it AFTER THE JUMP ...
More support for McMillen after the Itawamba County School District canceled its prom rather than allow her to bring her girlfriend, The Empowering Spirits Foundation, a national LGBT rights organization has offered to promote an all-inclusive prom in the area, reports Jackson's ABC 16. A New Orleans hotel has also offered to host a prom for all the students and free bus transportation. #Constance continues to be a trending topic on Twitter and there are more than 271,000 fans of the ACLU LGBT Facebook group "Let Constance Take Her Girlfriend to the Prom".
