Rod, I'm glad you posted this. I just watched a very good documentary on Current TV that profiled gay men living there.
It was interesting to learn that gays were quietly tolerated until the American missionaries held their conference there. They spread many lies about how American and Swedish activists were recruiting and raping children to become gay. They had a 'former' lesbian on saying how she was given a laptop and i-pod to become gay. The missionaries also gave the locals propaganda media of men getting fisted, eating each other's excrement and raping children. They actually showed these images and videos during a church service. It was very sad.

When you see how gays are demonized and the myths taught, it gives you a completely different perspective of why they are now feeling this way.
