Homophobia in the black community , bullying, gay-bashing and LGBT youth suicide are just several of the themes explored in the amazing new music video for Marsha Ambrosius' "Far Away" (iTunes).
The powerful video released yesterday accompanies a beautiful ballad, the second-single from Marsha Ambrosius' first solo album Late Nights & Early Mornings. Instead of a predictable music video storyboard with a good-looking male lead and contrived drama, Marsha chose to tackle LGBT issues—ripped from the headlines—that our community often refuses to address. And she sets it up as a romance and refused to cater to a sensational "down low" storyline.
There's also a poignant closing message from Marsha about homophobia and suicide. Brava. Perfect tens for Ms. Ambrosius for raising awareness and creating a beautiful song and music video.
The Liverpool-born Marsha Ambrosius was formerly one-half of the English duo Floetry, which had hits with "Floetic" and "Say Yes". Watch the amazing new video AFTER THE JUMP ...

Wow. I don't think i breathed at all watching that Powerful & brave music video. Love the fact it was void of sensationalism and it was REAL. Beautiful song and singer.

Just absolutely wonderful! Other than being a public service announcement, I hope a side result of this video is that it will pave the way for other gay artists who are languishing behind the wall of bigotry in the music industry.

Beautiful! I really hope BET features this video. I think I'm going to write an email to them. It is such a powerful message, that needs to be seen by as many people as possible.

Wow, thats was a powerful video. Im so happy she is using her platform to bring real awareness and telling a real story vs recycled love stories told a million times over. And the scene where the guy is attacked and from his point of view the camera shows the backdrop of the american flag was just genius! Bravo Marsha

This was great.
I've been running this track on repeat-1 non stop for a few weeks now and had planned on buying her album as soon as it drops - this video is tastefully done, original, brave, and so necessary. To top it off she looks and sounds amazing in it, youtube does her voice no justice, download the song on Itunes and listen through some good speakers/headphones, it's a d@mn masterpiece!
I'm sharing this video far and wide, she needs to blow up!

That was amazing and I love the song as well as the video. I purchased her first single and will be purchasing this one as soon as I finish typing this message. Marsha I love you and Vivian Green's lyrics and melodies in your music. So underrated and talented at the same time. Very well done indeed. A fan for life.

Nice song, nice video, great message, but here's the million dollar question: will this air on BET? I think we all know the answer to that.
Posted by: Darryl | 05 January 2011 at 18:07
LOVED (and I mean LOVED) the video. I almost starting crying.
You know what would be hotter (as if this video and song could get any hotter) would be to have a heterosexual man singing the song about one of his gay homies commiting suicide. (But then thats to unrealistic for today's society.....oh well.....)

I wont hold my breath to see this outstanding video on BET but maybe Centric will put it in rotation.
Loved the song ever since I heard it on Sirius/XM but the video just made it that much more special
Thanks Rod

Man.
I think of the words, "Pay it forward."
I'd like to think, at the end of my life, I've made it easier for my brothers to walk hand and hand and show as much love as they can.
