The Detroit Lions signed Carlin Isles, a member of the United States rugby sevens team, to its practice squad last week. Isles is described as the "fastest man in rugby" and became a YouTube sensation because of his speed.
Isles ran "a 4.22-second 40-yard dash in a workout for the Lions" two weeks ago, reports the Detroit Free Press. Isles ran track at Ashland University and now plays wing for Team USA Rugby. Isles' goal is to play for the USA at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. He is seen in the top photo imitating Rio's statue of Christ the Redeeemer recently in Cape Town.

Other NFL clubs have recently turned outside the USA college system for talent this season. Kenyan-born Daniel Adongo played two games in December for the Indianapolis Colts after playing for the South African-based Southern Kings in Super Rugby last season.
